Pour Concrete

How long can I keep concrete mixing for?

by jmeesin in Concrete

If I mix up a batch of concrete in my 3.5 cubic foot mixer, how long will the concrete be good for assuming that I keep it turning except for very short stops to pull out a bucket of material?

I assume it should be good for several hours as long as it is kept mixing, but I am not certain.

Soil Preparation for a Concrete Pour

by stavion in Concrete

I am having a new concrete patio poured at my new house. How can I be sure the contractor is properly preparing the underlayment before pouring the concrete?

I know about 8" of dirt needs to be removed and that 3/4" gravel and fine gravel should add back about 4" when compacted. I also know there should be a pre-soil treatment as well as a vapor barrier installed before the rebar goes down.

What else should I be sure is done before the 4" thick concrete is poured?
