Prepping for Concrete Patio
by in Concrete
- I want to expand the concrete sidewalk running around the back of my house into a Patio. The current concrete is original to the house circa 1975, so it has settled and lower than my current brickline. I know I need to remove the existing concrete walkway, but I feel I need to provide a good stable base for the new concrete or else it will sind as well. What type of material should I use to fill in for the lowered concrete and to provide a stable base for years to come?
In addition I am looking to raise the concrete slab up about a foot fom where it is today. Please use this information in considering an answer. Should I use a compactor? If so, how much material should I try and compact at a time?

Floating a concrete floor?
by in Concrete
- I will be laying ceramic tile in my kitchen during my remodel. How do I "float" a concrete floor in preparation for laying the said tile?
Is this an important step, or can I skip it?
